“Humans have been depicting birds in their everyday and spiritual lives for as many as 40,000 years. In all cultures and religions, birds represent life, death, freedom, strength, love, adventure. As an artist, I am challenged by color, texture, stance, and attitude. Capturing what makes each bird special, not just anatomically correct, is what I strive for—the softness of downy feathers, the iridescence of color on a raven’s wings, or the texture of a great blue heron’s beak. Painting birds leads one on the path to learn their anatomy, social structure, habitat needs, feeding habits, etc.

It becomes a blending of science and art. And a passion.”
