Linda Mirabile

Painting birds has always been part of my life, as early as grade school. Recently, while cleaning out my mom’s condo I returned home with a large painting of a mother gannet and her chick, done in junior high school, a barred owl that I have no memory of doing, and a chicken done in colored pencils that she always had hanging in her kitchen.

Focusing on birds and all things related allows me to speak a universal language. Everyone relates to a soaring vulture over a farmer’s field or the song of a white-throated sparrow during a walk in the Adirondack woods. The line between aesthetic and spiritual, for me, has always been blurred.

I strive to dismiss the need to perfect my work in a way that squelches experimentation—difficult for a person obsessed with detail! I enjoy trying different mediums, painting in oil one week and then graphite the next. The results are varied, but always fun in their pursuit. I hope you enjoy my work, each bird becoming a good friend before the palette is dry.
